Mice & Rats

Trapping, exclusion and monitoring that gets rodents out — and keeps them out.

Madison & Southern Wisconsin

Professional Mice & Rats Control

Every fall in Wisconsin, dropping temperatures send mice and rats searching for warmth — and a gap the width of a dime is all a mouse needs to move into your walls. Rodent calls spike from October through March, but established infestations persist year-round, chewing, nesting and multiplying out of sight.

Strib Pest Control's rodent program goes beyond bait boxes. We start with low-impact strategies — strategically placed traps and mechanical solutions — then seal the entry points so the next generation of rodents stays outside where it belongs. Safety for your family, pets and the environment comes first at every step.

Mice & Rats — pest control in Madison, WI

How to Identify Mice & Rats

Know your rodent — behavior and treatment differ by species:

Signs of activity: droppings along walls and in drawers, gnawed wood and plastic, chewed wiring, greasy rub marks along baseboards, shredded-material nests, and soft skittering in walls and ceilings at night.

Why Mice & Rats Are a Problem

Rodents are the most destructive common pest in Wisconsin homes. Chewed electrical wiring inside walls is a genuine fire hazard; gnawed pipes cause water damage; and tunneled insulation loses its R-value. The health risks are just as real: rodents contaminate food and surfaces with droppings and urine, and deer mice can carry hantavirus, a rare but serious respiratory disease. A pair of mice can produce dozens of offspring in a single season — early action matters.

FAQ

Mice & Rats Questions, Answered

Do ultrasonic rodent repellers work?

No — not for long. Mice quickly adapt to the sound, and furniture and boxes block the waves, giving rodents easy detours. Worse, the frequencies are audible to cats and dogs and can distress them. Trapping plus exclusion is what actually resolves an infestation.

I saw one mouse — is that really a problem?

Usually, yes. Mice are secretive, so a daytime sighting typically means an established population. A quick inspection of droppings, rub marks and entry points tells us the real scale — and our assessment costs you nothing upfront.

How long does it take to get rid of mice?

Most home infestations are knocked down within 1–2 weeks of trapping, but lasting results come from exclusion — sealing the entry points. Once your home is sealed and monitored, reinfestation becomes rare, which is why our program emphasizes it.
